Week # 11

Week 11 of the #smallandsimplechallenge. It’s getting a little wild out there!  But the weather is getting better and people are getting stir crazy.  Take a 10 minute walk everyday (anywhere) you can. Walk around the yard, hope on a treadmill or go for a hike. Get some fresh air and get moving.

Week # 9

We are incorporating some yoga into the #smallandsimplechallenge with the Garland pose. Sitting for long periods of time can tighten the thighs, hip flexors and groin which can cause back pain and poor posture. This pose can help open the hips and create better mobility and posture. This exercise can be difficult, especially if you’re doing it correctly so support yourself by holding onto something stable, if needed. Try your best to keep your heels flat on the floor. Start by holding this position for 15 to 30 seconds. As you get stronger you’ll be able to lengthen the duration. Although this may be less exciting than other challenges be sure to give it a try.

Week # 8

Back at it with another physical #smallandsimplechallenge . Do you want to strengthen your lower back and glutes? Do you need better posture? There are many benefits to this exercise so there’s no reason to wait. Do these for 30 seconds making sure to squeeze your glutes. See if you can get to 1 minute by the end of the week. If you need to make it easier, spread your feet wider and push your hips up with your hands on your butt. Want it more challenging? Try a resistance band around your knees. If you’re really into glute training follow @bretcontreras1 for tons of tips and techniques. The product giveaway will be announced tomorrow.Have fun!

Week #7

Week 7 of the #smallandsimplechallenge . We’re taking a break from more physical stuff this week. There is a relaxing breathing technique called ‘4-7-8 breathing’ and it works like this: Inhale through the nose for 4 seconds, hold the breath for 7 seconds and exhale through the mouth forcefully for 8 seconds. Repeat this up to 4 times. Be careful not to get too lightheaded!
The challenge is to do this process everyday before bed. If needed cut the time in half to 2-3.5-4 and work up. If you can do it twice a day even better.
This technique is believed to help with anxiety and can help you relax and fall asleep quicker. Try it out and let us know if it helps. There is also an app called ‘Breathe’ that will walk you through this process.

Week #6

Happy Monday! Here we go with a new challenge. A little more core work is never bad. We’ll be doing flutter kicks this week. A simple movement that can be very challenging. Set a timer and aim for a full 30 seconds. See how many seconds you can hit by the end of the week and let us know if you saw progress. –

As you get better add a little intensity and throw in a jump at the end of every burpee. Week #4

Here is week 4 of the #smallandsimplechallenge . Some may call this extreme but it is *supposed* to be a challenge. Grab your trusty water bottle or container and drink 96 ounces everyday. Just a 32 ounce bottle three times. There are so many benefits to sufficient water intake and the truth is most people don’t drink enough. More energy, better mood, healthy skin and digestive support are just a few. It can also help with less drama and negativity in your life but that’s more of a side effect of being in the bathroom so much.
